Christianity also started as a minority religion of rebellion and then was transformed when it became the Roman empire's official religion. Other changes were also instigated with Catholicism in the Middle Ages and the Protestant Reformation under Martin Luther. Generally, these historical events set the stage of growth from the early beginnings of Christianity as an offshoot of Judaism to today's diversity.
Unlike Renaissance scholars, Enlightenment scholars wanted to break away from the past and its traditions. Candide is Voltaire’s way of reflecting three Enlightenment thoughts: first, optimism is bad since it prevents one from seeing social maladies; second, social institutions and values restrain individual freedom.

Those that align themselves to religion claim to have knowledge of spiritual things when they, of course, do not. The spirit world, by definition, is that which is not of this world.

The enlightenment values encompass democracy, freedom, critical thinking, tolerance, and social justice. In the West, Enlightenment values are at the root of a secular creed – faith in the individual's ultimate cost, freedom, progress, and reason (Grayling 2009, p. 76).

Although there are certain reasons for childhood obesity, the major ones are simply eating junk / fast food and lack of exercise or work out (Heaner two; Lucas).

Based on this, many academic disciplines have attempted to come up with their own definitions; for instance, sociology, anthropology.
