We started from being friends which ended up a proposal for marriage and finally got married. 2. On my first interaction to him, I felt that I had met a good friend who was brilliant since we had a discussion on a topic that we had been taught that day. I liked his intelligence and the way he solved issues. 3. It took like one year Part 2 Relationship announcement 4. It took like six months for our friends to know about our relationship. The first person to know about the relationship was my husband’s friend who they lived in the same room 5. At the first point, they felt that I was getting along with the long person. In fact since my husband was a foreigner in UAE, they felt that he was using me to have comfort around during the years of his study 6. The first introduction was through a phone call. My husband had called his sister and informed of our relationship and the sister was eager to have a conversation with me. I felt appreciated by my husband’s family due to the warm conversation we had with his family members 7. The issue of culture was a major challenge. At the first place we were living in UAE which is my home country and that of my husband was in other country hence becoming difficult to learn. Part III: Decision making 8. It was when we were in our final year in campus that my husband outlined his vision in life and felt that he was the man I needed. 9. There was no point that my family interfered with my decisions 10. My relationship with my family is still the best and I see t continually flourishing in the future. Part IV: Challenges & benefits 11. My major challenge was that of social on keeping up with the culture of the a foreigner 12. What am enjoying is the legal statue that guarantee my foreign husband to undertake different activities in my country 13. I am enjoying my marriage, the understanding from my husband makes me have freedom in my marriage 14. We first met when he came to my country as a UN worker. We interacted exchanged contacts then. 2. When I met him I felt that he was the best husband that I had met due to his outgoing nature. I felt to interact more with him and know much about him. 3. It took three months for us to start dating Part II: Relationship announcement 4. It took me like a year to let my closest friend know. She was a childhood friend 5. My family members were happy with the perception that my husband was a UN worker. They even encouraged to clinch on him 6. The family had no problem with him. However, there was an issue of religion as he was a Christian and I being a Muslim. This made some of my family members to be skeptical of us making a couple 7. The major challenge was one of convincing my family members that I can keep up with a Christian husband and also ensuring that I learn the new culture. Language barrier also was an issue as I did not know French and I understood little English Part III: Decision making 8. Life was good at the beginning. I decided that he could marry me when he took me for holiday in Africa. 9. Some encouraged me to get married to him due to his job 10. The relationship is becoming worse since I do not assist them financially as they expected. They have cast doubt on the future of our marriage. Part IV: Challenges & benefits 11. The major challenge is that now my husband does not have a well-paying job as he used. Also, the issue that he is now in France while I am in UAE which make interaction rare and also meeting family expenses are difficult. 12. There is no much am enjoy from the duo citizenship benefits offered in our country instead they are costing me my marriage soon. 13. The situation is worse and each day I feel that we are drifting apart. The husband is struggling with his own life. He cannot be able to keep us as a family something that has made me to lose faith in him. 14. All factors in Emirates are fair since they provide room for couples to live together only that we as a family we are not utilizing the opportunities 15. Daily am being isolated and am not being visited as it used to be 16. 5 years Part V: Family status 17. The family is now almost becoming unstable both economically and socially. I felt he could make a good friend, as he was easily approachable and easy to deal with. 3. It took like a year then we started dating Part II: Relationship announcement 4. It took like six months to let my family know that I was dating. The first person who knew was my sister since I went with to meet him. 5. They were very skeptical about the whole idea of marrying a foreigner and they felt that I was not doing right. 6. They felt that I was not on the right track. They were not ready to meet him. It even led to disagreements with my parents. 7. The major challenge was one of convincing my family that he was the right man to marry me. Also the issue of learning some British culture. Part III: Decision making 8. We enjoyed our lives travelling different parts of the world as tourists. The thing that made me decide to marry him was when we had a disagreement and he understood me. He took time to solve the problem something that made him special to me. 9. My family did not influence my decision in anyway. However, the more they rejected our friendship and plans the more I loved him. 10. The relationship with my family is now superb. They have learnt my husband is one of the best and he can keep up with any person with a lot of easy. Part IV: Challenges & benefits 11. The only challenge I faced was one of learning the British culture as I rarely travelled to that country. The rest of the issues were okay. 12. What am enjoying is the economic stability and the legal freedom within my country that has enables I and my spouse to live together happily. 13. We are having the best marriage life. However, the fact that my spouse is proposing for us to relocate to their country is somehow disturbing me. If I was to choose a husband again I can use any so long as we get along together happily. 14. The conditions of living in UAE is one of the best that gives the freedom of interaction that is good to married couples 15. They have come to appreciate the marriage and they feel it has been helpful to them. 16. 7 years Part V: Family status 17. We are in a stable relationship that is able to raise the basic needs and also the level of understanding is one of the best. 18. We met we he had been posted as a lecturer in the university that I was undertaking my degree. We started to be friends due to the fact he used to assist me in some consultation stuffs within the university 2. I usually had this official respect to him as my teacher and I never thought he will be my husband. 3. It took us two years. Upon completion of my degree it is when we started dating Part II: Relationship announcement 4. It took me six months for me to let my friends in the university know that I was dating him. The first people to know were my campus friends. 5. At first they were negative about it as they felt I was still young to get into a relationship. My parents were for the opinion that I first advance my studies before getting married. Also the fact that he was a foreigner gave me a hard task to explain to my parents. 6. The family was somehow negative about him being a foreigner 7. The major challenge was the fact that he was a foreigner and explaining the whole idea to my parents at the age they perceived me to be young Part III: Decision making 8. The dating life was smooth he understood me well; he knew what my values were. All this made me decide to marry him. 9. I can say that my family had no major influence in my decision because I had understood what he stood for and I was ready to take him up. 10. My family has come to appreciate our marriage. The major challenge I faced was that of legal issues about a lecturer dating a student within the university. Also that of social factors others feeling that I married an elderly man 12. The major challenge I have faced is the religion challenge where my family and friends feel that she does not deserve to be my wife. Also I have an economic challenge as I am the only one working 12. My marriage life is good despite few challenges I am enjoying everything. The understanding between me and my wife keeps me going.
