Panera Bread opened its first Canadian outlet in Toronto in late 2007. Panera decided to enter Canada because it realized that the marketplace was well suited to the concept of the café, casual, sit-down bakery café, which translated well across the geographical boundaries in the US and the time was appropriate to enter Canada with such a concept (Seipell, 2011).

Panera Bread could relate them with the local market and thus have its stores located in 37 states. It targeted the local people and community and is known for its great neighbourhood. It is committed to creating an ambience and culture within Parena which is inviting, embracing and warm (Faqs.org, 2011, p.4). Therefore the strategy of ‘Think Local, Act Local’ fits the company.

Panera has adopted a code of ethics which applies to its officers such as the principal executive, accounting and financial officers also its employees and directors (Panera Bread Company, 2010, p.76). The Panera reputation of integrity flows from its core values and principles which comply with the law. The company depends on its associates and makes the right decision (Panera, 2007, p.4).

Panera supports charities through the Operation Dough Nation program which has contributed both bread donations and monetary funds to hunger relief agencies and local food pantries. 

The management and HR play a vital role in attracting and retaining employees. The leadership quality of Ron Shaich along with the HR, Liz Dunlap helped the company to get the best employees.

The fundamental of Panera corporate culture is the essential ingredient, of Panera Care - Warmth and caring. The company has good employee relations, a commitment to the best bread in America with quality, specialization, tradition, and caring for the employees, customers and community.
