The emergence of terrorist, human trafficking and illegal immigrations have compelled governments to legislature laws to control the movement aimed at preventing unlawful movement of people and goods, protecting the community and maintain the integrity of the borders. Border control therefore, refers to the measures applied by various governments to regulate the inflow and outflow of people and goods in a country. The measures involve application of various methods and strategies that reduces illegal movement of people and goods. Some of the measures taken include application of immigration detention facilities, National Guard, apprehending of illegal immigrants, preservation of organization integrity and employing sanctions on goods. The essay discusses the method and strategies applied by governments to regulate the movement of goods and people across countries’ borders, contemporary issues that impact on the security and integrity of national borders and the principles that underpin borders control risk management. Governments of various countries have set up inspection stations at entry and exists points. The stations are located at counties borders, seaports and airports which are gateways to a country. They are fitted with high technological detection facilities such as satellites with ability to detect illegal goods even those that are hidden. Satellites and other flaws detection gadgets are complemented with dogs that are trained to detect illegal drugs. All the goods and people crossing from one country to another have to be thoroughly inspected to ensure that none of illegal goods finds their way from one country to another. The identity of a person is also scrutinized to so that only the legal immigrants are allowed in the country (William, 2011). All the illegal goods are confisticated by the borders guards. This has reduced the illegal immigrants such as terrorists human trafficking and passage of smuggling of illegal goods such as illegal drugs. National guards have been deployed in counties borders to maintain counties integrity. This is a security agency that deals with the security of a country at the entry points. They are found in all country borders and protect it from illegal migration of people and goods. Governments are applying this method to ensure that nothing gets in or out of a country without following the right procedure. They arrests anyone how attempts to smuggle goods or attempts to cross the borders. This protects the community as the smuggling of goods affects a country development. Terrorisms is also minimized by the method as they fear been arrested by the guards. During an outbreak of a disease especially animal disease, the guards are responsible for imposing the quarantine policy which prevents spreading of the outbreak to from one country to another (Customs, 2004). The third method applied to regulate the movement across a country border is the apprehending and executing of the people who attempts to cross borders or are caught to have migrated illegally. The seriousness of the illegal immigrations issue have resulted to formulation of policy that allow governments arrest anyone found attempting to cross illegally or is found to have migrated illegally. The individual is apprehended by the government and a heavy punishment is imposed on them. The culprits are either sentenced or returned to their country where they are executed ( Chamblis, 2011). This serves as an example to other who may be having the same intentions. Despite the strict rules regulating the inflow and outflow at counties’ borders, the incidents of illegal immigrants and human trafficking have remained unchanged. This is attributed to the rate of the corruption and inefficiency found in the patrols board. The employees in the patrol accept bribes and favors from illegal immigrants and allow passage of illegal goods. Illegal drugs have found their way in many countries that have already banned them. The reason behind this is that the patrol board lacks integrity and therefore, accepts bribes for the clearance of illegal goods. Governments are trying to foster integrity in the board so that they do not comprise their integrity for the sake of money. Governments are appointing competent and effective leaders who have proved their ability in the running of organizations. The employees working in the patrol areas are well paid so that they don’t think of engagement in corruption activity with an aim of gaining money (Ibid, 2011) Trade restriction is another method applied to control the passage of the goods and people from one country to another. Trade restrictions have been mainly used to control the quantity of the product from one country to another. Governments have imposed trade restrictions on the countries that the illegal products are believe to come from. Trade restrictions could be partial that have limited control or full. Governments are imposing full trade restrictions on the countries that attempts to smuggle goods or human trafficking. Countries are therefore keen to engage only in the legitimate trade as illegal goods may costs them to loss a trading partner. Some contemporary issues such as terrorism and international diplomacy impact on the national security. Currently, terror actions have raise concern to government all over the world. The terror actions are aimed at destroying and killing innocent people as form of revenge. Many terrorist groups have emerged especially from Arab counties that are targeting the west countries and USA. This has affected all the countries as the groups target embassies of these countries that are found almost in all countries in the world. The national security in every country has been compelled to stay alert and thoroughly monitor the country immigrants to prevent entrance and attract on the country. The international diplomacy has also impacted on the national security. International organizations such as UN has spear headed the international relationship which have seen countries resolve their problems peaceful rather than direct confrontations that threaten counties’ national security. The organization has also dealt with international security issues such as terrorism and border conflicts (Haynes, 2010). They have military that deals with the security threats that to the war. This has been a boost in the national security of many counties in the world. Some domestic and international principles underpin the border risk management and intelligence. International organizations are moving toward forming a global economy where they will be free movement of people from one country to another. Some countries have already signed treaties allowing free trade and movement of people from one country to another (Haynes, 2010). Examples include the European Union and COMESA among others. The organizations aim at free movement of people and goods amongst themselves. This may underpin risk management and intelligence as the policy may open up room for movement of illegal goods since there is no inspection of goods. Some domestic laws allow immigrants such as expatriates to enjoy a free movement between their country and the new country. This may greatly underpin risk management and intelligence as the real motive behind the expatriates cannot be easily established. Some of them are spies who come to gather information about the security of a country hence security threat to the national security. Some people pass the border in pretext of diplomats and the security is limited to the inspections of such dignitaries who sometimes are terrorists or spies. All these hinder risk management and intelligence (Chamblis, 2011). The border management responsibilities lie on hand of several agencies that co-operative to implement the policies and laws which foster security and integrity of the borders. The agencies aims at enhancing the trade and movement of people but still maintain the security and the integrity of the border. The business agencies include the customs and Board protections and the external trade department. The two agencies deal movement of goods which are mainly trade goods. On the other hand, the government agencies include the National Guard, the sea guard and the immigration department (William, 2011). National guards are in charge of the borders while the sea guard controls the movement of the goods and people through water. The military may be required to maintain the border integrity in an event of direct confrontation with external forces. The essay discussed the methods and strategies applied by governments to regulate the movement of goods and people across countries’ borders, contemporary issues that impact on the security and integrity of national borders and the principles that underpin borders control risk management. Various method and strategies are applied to regulate the movement of people and goods from one country to another. They include application of immigration detention facilities, National Guard, apprehending of illegal immigrants, preservation of organization integrity and employing sanctions on goods. Terrorism and the international diplomacy are some of contemporary issues that impact on the security and integrity of the national borders. The free trade policies that have been adopted by many governments may underpin the borders control and risk management. References. Chambliss, William, 2011, Crime and Criminal Behavior.
