October 04, Proposal for a Research Paper on Child Trafficking and Child Labor Introduction: Despitethe all round development in different walks of life, Child Trafficking and Child Labor still remain major concerns in the modern world. This deprives the children, who are victims of this menace, of their “right to be free of exploitation” besides preventing them access to education and other avenues for development. (Training Manual to Fight Trafficking in Children for Labor, Sexual and Other Forms of Exploitation: Understanding Child Trafficking).

Children are mainly being trafficked for the purpose of exploiting their services in agricultural farms, manufacturing units, mines and other hazardous industries. Female children, on the other hand, are used as domestic servants and also for providing sexual services. Statistics indicate that “an estimated 1.2 million children are trafficked each year” (Human Trafficking: The Facts 1). This problem remains more severe in under developed and developing countries than in developed nations.

Research Topic: Evaluate the measures that government and other agencies take to rehabilitate the victims of child trafficking and child labor and assess whether these are being implemented effectively to salvage them. Problem Statement:In a civilized world, depriving children of their right to education and denying them proper opportunities for development is a violation of their human rights. Therefore, the issue needs to be dealt from the perspective of salvaging the children who are victims rather than merely punishing the perpetrators.

In most cases, especially in the context of under developed nations, the instances of child trafficking and child labor remain unnoticed or unreported. In many cases, the governments either pretend it is nonexistent or refuse to acknowledge that this menace prevails in their country. Unfortunately, it is the innocent children who take the toll of neglect and remain deprived of their rights. Many governmental and nongovernmental agencies are committed to the cause of preventing child trafficking and abolishing child labor.

The issue also remains a subject of hot debates and virulent researches. National governments and international bodies like the International Labor Organization (ILO) and UNESCO have implemented various measures to confront this challenge. However, the focus of these concerted efforts confines to preventing the problem or punishing the offenders. While there is a need to enact more stringent rules and regulations to punish the culprits, the authorities should accord priority to the issue of salvaging the victims.

To safeguard their rights and interests, they must be offered certain schemes and privileges to bring them at par with other children. Therefore, this aspect needs to be explored further. The topic of the research will be of interest to stakeholders involved like children who fall victim to the menace, their parents, various agencies fighting against the problem and also governmental organizations. Research Methodology: Since this research does not envisage an exhaustive investigation, it will rely on primary data available in literature from previous researches besides statistics published by various international organizations as well as governmental agencies.

Both quantitative and qualitative data will be obtained through literature review for the purpose.Possible Solutions: The research seeks to address the question of rehabilitation of the victims of child trafficking and labor. It will suggest some ways and means to rehabilitate the children, who lose the opportunity for education and development due to being the victims. It will evaluate the existing policies and schemes and recommend further course of action that may improve the facilities available to the victims.

Potential Possibilities and Problems Associated with the Research: A research of this sort will facilitate an understanding of the problems relating to settlement of the victims in terms of their rehabilitation. Curbing the menace and punishing the perpetrators is only part of the problem. A more significant aspect remains in the issue of salvaging the victims and streamlining their lives into the mainstream. This research will, thus, help in addressing this problem to a certain extent. The main problem that the researcher anticipates is the difficulty in locating the relevant information.

There appears to be a dearth of reliable information to ascertain the rehabilitation schemes that have been implemented and to measure how much these have benefitted the victim children. However, it will be the researcher’s endeavor to obtain all possible data to for analyzing the situation and arriving at appropriate conclusions. Work CitedHuman Trafficking: The Facts. UN.
