In the poem “Bear in There” by Shel Silverstein the poet has used plenty of stylistic devices which are the most unique feature of poems. There is the use of rhyming words especially the end rhyme. For example, Silverstein uses rhyming words such as ‘.bear.Frigidaire.there.scare’ These rhyming words appears in line 1, 2,3 and 14 respectively. The main purpose of the rhyming words is to create some form of musicality within the poem. There is much use of repetition which helps in emphasizing the main theme of the poem.

The repeated words include; “and.”, ‘.He’s’. The repeated phrases are used to emphasize the fact that the poet is talking about the risks posed by the polar bear. The polar bear is scary, dangerous especially during the cold season. There is also a figurative language used in the poem such as ‘.his face in the fish’ to imply the manner in which the bear consumes the fish, ‘.his seat in the meat’ to imply the bear’s state of consuming its meal.

Many other words have been used to show the manner in which the bear is scary such as ‘.his big hairy paws’ ‘.he lets out a roar’ in lines 6 and 12 respectively. The poem “Harlem” by Langston Hughes has a lot of application of rhetoric questions. As readers understand, these are the question which tends to lack direct answers and they are not directed to anyone. Some of the rhetoric questions include; ‘Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?’ in line 2 and 3.

The poet seems to be questioning the state of deferred dream and its impact on the person who is involved in the dream. The poet also makes much use of the similes to emphasize the main theme of the poem. For example, ‘.like a raisin in the sun’ in line 3, ‘.like a sore’ in line 4, ‘.like rotten meat’ all these similes tends to compare the features of a deferred dream which seems to dry up, irritate the way a sore does to the body or skin. The dream is also compared to rotten meat which is unpleasant to smell or at times it is likened to a heavy load which sags when being lifted.

The poem has been put in stanzas which is one of the main features of a poem to bring in some form of patterns for easy recitation and understanding. The last poem is “The Unknown” by Donald Rumsfeld and Hart Seely. The poem is figurative in nature with the use of plenty of repetitions. The ‘Unknown’ seems to address the reader that there are very many things which might be known and fully be aware of while there are those that might not be known by the reader. It is common in the modern world to know some things and to fail to know other things.

The main theme of unknown things is emphasized by the use of repetition such as ‘.we know we know’ in line 3.
