Environmental and Physical Impacts of Events  By Environmental and physical impacts are very important in the field of events. An event’s organizer should be cautious and put into consideration these impacts since they play a major role in any event. To the event’s organizer it is to his or her advantage when an event is successful and following up the environmental impacts and dealing with them in the right manner makes the event’s organizer to be appreciated and gain a good relationship between him and the stakeholders. They are fundamental impacts and need proper attention in order to achieve good outcomes in an event. The environmental and physical impacts in an event range from climate, Transport, Energy, waste, consumption of materials, water, nature and landscape, noise and catering. The physical infrastructure mainly touches mainly on the transport infrastructure (Greg 2009).The other important environmental impact that the organizers should check on is the waste management which generally covers the rubbish collection and the provision of toilets. When he organizers of an event are cautious this creates a better platform to the success of an event. For an organizer to come up with a good successful even he or she should first take time in the planning the event. One should go through all the environmental impacts to the event then analyze them and then see the best ways and procedures of handling the environment friendlily to avoid the repercussions that come afterwards (Greg 2009). Being environmental cautious helps so much to achieve better environments. An environmental strategy is very important in any event and the event organizer should be able to make right decisions on the people to supply the equipment needed in the event and also be able to choose the suitable contractors to get the tender for the event making. Making an event that is environmentally friendly makes even the people attending the event to have good time and enjoy the event to the maximum. Such an event will boost the experience that the people who participated had. The good transport put in place would reduce the losing of time. It also reduces the traffic and the congestion and solves the parking issues. A good transport system would even deal with the problem of exhaust fumes. There are four phases that are used in working towards achieving a good environmental strategy during an event. The first one is planning, before the event, during the event and after the event. The process has got ways that help to engage the stake holders and assessing of the environmental impacts. It also has the skills of communication and the measures needed to be taken to implement the strategies (Egbert 2007). The next step after the implementation of strategies is coming up with main areas that cover the environmental impacts. One should focus on the following areas when creating the environment. One should first handle the issue of procurement which deals with the contracts. The people to be offered the contract in should be legitimate people who can handle the matter with environmental skills and this is the first step to make sure that the event is able to fight the negative environmental impacts. The next step is to have in mind is how to control the waste and the resource usage. The other things are things such as transport, energy, the construction of the temporary structures. The temporary structures should observe the environmental friendliness (Egbert 2007). Other things to put in place when planning for an event is water which is clean and non-infectious and lastly one should be aware of the greenhouse gas emissions. The last step when planning for an event is to be realistic and to choose what is important for the event. The planning of an event is very important and it determines the outcomes of the event. For an environmental friendly event that considers the environmental impacts one has to put in place all the measures that keep the event more greener as much as possible (Christopher 2009). Natural things should be used in the process to achieve this and avoid the use of things that will pollute the environment. Action is much important when it comes to these matters. Coming up with a an event that caters for the environment will make the organizers to build their name, hence getting to win more bids as compared to the other competitors in the market. The presence of the person who is heading the plans of the event is very important since he or she helps to make sure that all that has been implemented sails through well as planned and that the people who are employed to do the job follow the instructions accordingly. This will be able to achieve the goal of reducing the environmental impacts. When this is implemented in the right order and following the steps to the latter the stake holders will be challenged and also have the same motive in return the event will have changed the thinking of the people towards a better nation and a better nation with a healthy and good environment. Environment comes in with other many factors and it is so important for nation to work towards a healthy environment. It creates a good working condition and with this the citizens are of a nation are able to work and this will bring forth a good economy which is an advantage to the country as a whole. Events that observe these steps of creating a good environment will help so much in the implementation of eradication of the environment impacts (Glenn 2007). The type of event to be held determines the different impacts that the environment will have on them. The environmental impacts will come up with different aspects in the event depending on the type of event. Traffic and transportation are very crucial in an event. Traffic congestion might end up being a problem and causing hiccups in an event. This can affect the management of an event in a big way. This might end up even influencing the location where the event is to be held. Most of the organizers would consider the traffic situation win since it has to be efficient since the time factor is important in any event and the guests are required to arrive in an efficient manner without complications and also be on time for the event. For example in an event there would be many people attending an event either by private or public transport. One should consider the traffic since most of the people maybe in a mega event would have private cars and this would cause traffic jam towards one direction where the event is to be held. And also parking would become a problem since it takes a lot of space. The solution to cub this problem is by advising the people attending the event to use the public transport to control the traffic. Energy also plays an important role in an event and it is one of the environmental impacts. The event managers should make sure that there is efficient energy to be used in an event. If the event is to be extended to until the night they should ensure the lighting system is functional and efficient. The energy should also reach the limit of the rate of power to be used by the electrical systems which might have electrical sound system and music system. The significant amount of energy should be kept into consideration. When holding an event one should also have a backup plan to be on the safer side in case the electricity went off (Christopher 2009). Backup generators would help to ensure smooth running of the event. Food consumption is also important. In most of the events the event organizers use disposable materials to serve the food such as plastic plates and other utensils. The disposal of the food waste is also an environmental problem that makes and impact in events. The waste management is also another important factor that the organizers of an event should lay an emphasis on. It is very important to try and conserve the environment in the best ways possible. Any event especially the events that hold a lot of people will bring in a lot of solid waste such as papers and plastics. The recycling of such things becomes a major problem to the environment. Pre cycling is the term that is used and it means the method whereby the suppliers are advised to reduce the rate of packaging using non- recyclable materials when packaging. The other method of controlling the waste materials is by sorting the waste and arranging the waste in a systematic manner in different containers. This is called primary sorting. The left over can be donated to local food banks and the non- recyclable materials can be made to one compostable product. Littering is very important measure to be taken to conserve the environment since it affects and causes great harm to the environment. Good waste reduction policies and a good recycling process would help to reduce the wastage in an event. Water use is an event is also an environmental impact on the events. There are two aspects of water that need to be considered towards achieving a good and conducive environment. One of the aspects to be considered is the usage of water and also water pollution. Most of the events that are held water are a fundamental thing that has to be present. Other demands come in since water is used in toilets. In this case most of the water used in the toilets is recycled water. This is a good method of conserving the environment. In sporting events water is very essential. The event managers should consider water and try to provide tapped water in events to reduce the rate of water that comes packed with unrecyclable materials. In some cases water used in an event would be recycled after being used but these require proper methods that meet the health requirements. Whenever water is used there has to be wastages. Water issues come in from the climate issues. Water quality is very important and as it is mentioned earlier pollution comes in either in organic or solid waste pollution. What the event managers should work on when putting up events is infrastructure such as better sewerage and waste water. Air pollution is another and greater problem that impact the environment. Some of the events held have got gasses are emitted from the stage when introducing special moments or when celebrating special moments or victory. In the motor racing events this is very common. Most of the motor vehicles participating in such events are fitted with exhaust pipes that emit gasses that are harmful to the environment. The gases come from the engines that are not lubricated properly. The ecological impacts also play a major role in events. This is common to the heavy vehicles mostly in the safari rallies. This becomes a problem since there is destruction of vegetation and erosion of the land. Pollution of air has been identified mostly to happen in the Fifa world cup where there are carbon emissions that are let into the air. Transport activities also chip in and release carbon from the exhaust pipes and which is not friendly to the environment. The only way that air pollution can be controlled is by avoiding such harmful gasses and using other methods to grace the occasions (Greg 2009). The other problem that creates an environmental impact in an event is noise. When events are held at places where people reside the event is likely to be attended by many people. When there is overcrowding in any event or place noise is always a problem. The events that cause a lot of noises are the sporting activities where people cheer at the top of their voices to motivate their teams. Also the music concerts and talent shows lead to noise. Noise may also occur from the traffic jams. Noise is said to be harmful to sick people in hospitals and it would affect them so when events are being held the event organizers should take the issue of noise making to be serious and avoid it. Locations that the events are being held should be conducive places where no problems related to pollution are going to be experienced. Noise is also a threat to the learning institutions in order to maintain a good learning environment. Water that is to be taken by the people in these events should be screened thoroughly and approved not to contain bacteria since water that is polluted can cause serious problems to the people who take them (Greg 2009). The impact of the environment is important in the aspect that it controls the climate of a place. Environment is a very sensitive matter and its pollution leads to more serious and severe consequences. Since there has been much pollution the environment has had very many changes. Most of the seasons have changed and become very unpredictable. This has become a great problem to the events organizations since weather is a very important thing when it comes to the organizing of the events. Most of the events especially the sporting activities such as the outdoor games have had very many problems and have had to postpone these games for the appropriate times. For a game like soccer it becomes so hard to play the game during the rainy season. Also the motor vehicles rallies are affected when it is raining since the roads are impassable (Christopher 2009). By reducing the cost of waste disposal, the water and the energy, this will lead to the saving of money that is lost when trying to control this. It will be an added advantage to the organizer himself. Managing the environmental impacts makes the event a world- class event. Conserving of the environment in this ways is a very a great achievement towards achieving the international expectations on the issue of environment. New Zealand is one of the countries that have set a good platform to the others when it comes to the issue of conservation of the environment. 83 % of the people who live in New Zealand are aware of the significances of environment impacts. The other thing that would very much help in the making of the world much greener is by creating awareness and coming up with behaviors which are environmentally friendly by setting good examples to the rest in these events (Greg 2009). With a good environment the world is a secure world. That is the message that should be passed to all the nations of the world. An event that observes the initiatives of eradicating the environmental impacts is a good way of starting the campaign towards achieving a good environment Reference List Christopher, B 2009, Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change, Cambridge University Press.
